Setting Ping Caps For Suppliers and Buyers In a Ping Post Exchange
Ping Caps let you control the flow of pings being ingested and distributed across your buyers in a Ping Post Exchange. They can be configured on the Supplier side, to manage incoming pings, and on the Buyer side, to manage the pings sent out to each buyer.
When Can You Set Ping Caps?
Supplier-Side Ping Caps
Ping Caps on the Supplier side can only be set on Suppliers inside a Ping Post Exchange.
For Suppliers in a Ping Post Exchange, you can set Ping Caps by minute, hour, and day.
These short time windows exist because Ping Post Exchanges can receive tens of thousands of pings per day, and caps can fill up quickly depending on the exchange's performance and incoming ping volume.
Minute caps reset every minute, hourly caps reset every hour, and daily caps reset at the end of each day.
You cannot set a Ping Cap for a Supplier inside a Direct Post campaign, because pings do not exist on the Supplier side in that campaign type.
Buyer-Side Ping Caps
Ping Caps on the Buyer side can only be set on Ping Post Buyers inside a Ping Post Exchange.
For Ping Post Buyers inside a Ping Post Exchange, you can set Ping Caps by minute, hour, and day. As with Supplier-side caps, these short time windows exist because Ping Post Exchanges can receive tens of thousands of pings per day, and caps can fill up quickly depending on performance and incoming ping volume. Minute caps reset every minute, hourly caps reset every hour, and daily caps reset at the end of each day.
You cannot set Ping Caps on Direct Post, Google Sheet, Email, or Store Leads buyers within a Ping Post Exchange, and you cannot set Ping Caps for any buyer type inside a Direct Post campaign.
This is because:
- There are no incoming pings inside a Direct Post campaign.
- In a Ping Post Exchange, Direct Post, Google Sheet, Email, and Store Leads buyers don't actually have the ping distributed to them — they're set up to always accept the ping if they're eligible for it. This is why filters are especially important for these buyer types inside a Ping Post Exchange.
Quick Reference
- Ping Caps can be set by minute, hour, or day.
- On the Supplier side, Ping Caps for incoming pings can only be set on Suppliers inside a Ping Post Exchange.
- On the Buyer side, Ping Caps can only be set on Ping Post Buyers inside a Ping Post Exchange.
Ping Caps give you precise control over volume at every point in the exchange, letting you pace incoming ping traffic from Suppliers and manage exactly how many pings reach each Buyer. This helps you stay within buyer capacity and budget limits, avoid overloading any single Supplier or Buyer connection, and keep distribution predictable even when overall ping volume spikes. Used alongside filters, Ping Caps are one of the main tools for keeping a Ping Post Exchange running smoothly.
